How to increase your energy while pregnant

You’ve got a little one on the way and there’s so much to do! Every day feels like it brings new and exciting challenges. You want to have as much energy as possible for this important stage of your life, but where’s it going to come from?

Sound sleep

Sleeping through the night toward the beginning of pregnancy is tough, if not impossible, thanks to that growing belly. However, being well-rested is a big part of staying energized. If you’re not getting a good night’s sleep, try taking power naps throughout your day. The National Institute of Mental Health states that a 60-minute nap can prevent burnout and make it easier to process information.

More magnesium

If you’re feeling overtired, it could be a symptom of magnesium deficiency. Magnesium helps with a lot of important things in your body (protein synthesis, muscle and nerve function, blood glucose control, blood pressure regulation), and is required for energy production. If you don’t have enough magnesium, your energy levels can, and probably will, drop.

Bountiful B vitamins

According to our partners at New Chapter, who created their Perfect Prenatal Multivitamin, B vitamins are crucial when it comes to boosting energy. Their whole-food fermented B vitamins work naturally with your body to support your energy needs during pregnancy, early motherhood, and breastfeeding.*

Easy exercise

We know it may sound odd, but getting a little exercise when you’re feeling worn out actually increases your energy. Physical activity increases energy levels because it improves the circulation in your body and strengthens your heart muscle. And it doesn’t necessarily have to be easy exercise. A short walk around the neighborhood is a great way to increase your energy levels, or you could go run a 5K if that floats your boat!

Be sure to check with your healthcare provider before starting any exercise program.

Morning meals

Don’t skip breakfast! We’ve been hearing this advice since we were little, but it’s easy to choose an extra 10 minutes of sleep over a fried egg sometimes. However, you really need food in the morning to create energy to carry you over until lunch. You also need to kick your metabolism into gear after not eating for all the hours you just spent sleeping (or not sleeping…remember what we said about naps?).

Some studies suggest that taking a daily multivitamin, like New Chapter’s fermented multivitamins for pregnancy and beyond, can support a healthy mood and help with occasional stress and fatigue.* Taking a New Chapter multivitamin each day could be just the boost you need!
