Your genes tell a story, but how are you supposed to know what they’re saying? Carrier screening is a genetic test that determines whether you are a “carrier” of a genetic disease and if your children are at risk of developing the condition.
Recombine’s CarrierMap is an industry-leading carrier screen that can give parents the information they need to make smart family healthcare decisions, even before baby is born. By assessing your risk of having a child with a genetic disease, CarrierMap makes women feel informed, empowered, and reassured about their baby’s health.

- I don’t have a genetic disease. Could I still be a carrier?
Yes. Anybody can be a carrier of a recessive genetic condition and can be at risk of passing it on to their children, even if there is no family history of the disorder. Everybody has two copies of each gene: one inherited from their mother, and one from their father. Recessive genetic disorders, such as cystic fibrosis, require both copies of the gene to be affected in order for a person to actually develop the disease, so you could be a carrier without ever knowing it. CarrierMap tests for carrier status of over 250 different genetic diseases. - What happens if I am a carrier?
Recombine has a team of trained and certified genetic counselors on staff who will work with you individually to help you understand your results, discuss implications, and help guide your next steps. However, if you do test positive as a carrier of a certain condition, it’s often recommended that your partner also get tested in order to determine if your child may be at risk. The effects of recessive disorders vary depending on the condition, so Recombine’s genetic counselors will work with you to help you make the best decisions for your family. - Is CarrierMap covered by insurance?
