Of all of the gifts that your newborn will receive over their first few days, weeks, and months, none could be more important than good health. Infants might see their health care providers seven or more times throughout the first year of life, and receive doses of a number of important immunizations, so it’s essential that they have health insurance coverage that will allow them to do so.
Infants are covered under the mother’s health plan for a brief period, sometimes as few as 5 days. To ensure continuous coverage, it is best to add your baby to your health plan right away.
