Many moms-to-be start to think about the hospital they’ll give birth in even before pregnancy. If you’ve started to think about a hospital for pregnancy or delivery, it’s a great time to start asking questions about how labor-friendly different hospitals are.
A labor-friendly hospital is one that facilitates labor progression, doesn’t induce labor too early, and places emphasis on helping patients follow their birth plans. By allowing labor to progress as naturally as possible, labor-friendly hospitals reduce the number of medically unnecessary C-sections (and have a lower overall C-section rate as a result).
So, what does this mean for moms-to-be? You can look at a hospital’s C-section rate to learn more about how labor-friendly they are: the lower the rate, the more labor-friendly the hospital — and the less likely you are to have a medically unnecessary C-section.
Care teams at labor-friendly hospitals dedicate more time and resources to you and your labor.
